Gretchen Morgenson is an American Pulitzer award-winning journalist born on January 2, 1956. He is notably known as a long-time writer of the Market Watch column for the Sunday magazine Money and Business. This is the segment of The New York Times. Later, she moved to The Wall Street Journal. She co-authored The Woman’s guide to the Stock Market. Gretchen worked as an Assistant Editor for Vogue Magazine before becoming a financial columnist and writer. She joined the Wall Street stock brokerage, Dean Witter Reynolds, until January 1984, when she left.

Morgenson revealed a story about Wall Street analyst, Matthew Murray. Murray was fired shortly after he reported emails to congress in regard to a potential violation of SEC regulation AC by an investment bank (Rodman & Renshaw). The emails were about the investment bank not letting the analyst lower his rating or his name be removed from the coverage, of an investment banking client.

Morgenson had gotten a letter from the Senate Finance Committee in which Senator Grassley stated that the chairperson of the bank’s investment, General Wesley Clark, had acknowledged to his staff that the analyst had been fired from the investment bank due to the reporting of the emails to Congress.
