Koffi Olomide Musical career
Koffi Olomide was born on July 13, 1956, in Kisangani, DRC. He was a composer and songwriter before becoming a lead vocalist. He joined Viva la Musica band, which belonged to papa Wemba, after his return to Congo in the 1970s. Koffi formed Quartier Latin International in 1986. Today his band marks 36 years after its formation, he last celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2006. He was raised by his parents, Charles Agbepa (father).
He has performed and composed many songs since starting his band. The formation of Tcha Tcho was used to popularize slower style of Soukous.

He was named Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba. The reason why his mother nicknamed him Koffi is because he was born on on Friday. He belonged to middle class family and he had no musical background despite being a famous musician. Sometimes he refers to himself as “Mopao”.

Where did Koffi Olomide study? Koffi received a scholarship to study in Bordeaux, France. When he was in high school, his teacher used to describe him as “a very bright student,” and indeed he was. Olomide pursued a bachelor’s degree in business economics. Koffi Olomide allegedly assaulted his producer due to abuse and disrespect of contract in 2012. The producer was said to have been given a three-month suspension.
He was also filmed making kicking moves towards one of his dancers at the time he visited Kenya and while on stage. The video went viral and as a result, the show was suspended. They later arrested Koffi after four days after the incident in Kenya airport for the same mistakes. Later, there was a revelation that Olive Lembe Kabila the wife of Laurent Kabila was behind the arrest and this was because of her association with women’s protection against violence and rape.
