Daniel Cameron is an American attorney and politician who is currently serving as the Attorney General of Kentucky. He was born on November 22, 1985, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, to a father who worked as a Baptist preacher and a mother who was a school teacher. Cameron is of African American and Puerto Rican descent.
Education
Cameron attended the University of Louisville, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a Juris Doctor degree from the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law.
Career
After completing his education, Cameron joined a law firm in Louisville and later served as a law clerk for Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. In 2015, he joined the legal division of the Office of the Kentucky Attorney General, where he worked as a legislative liaison and legal counsel.
In 2019, Cameron announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the position of Kentucky Attorney General. He won the primary election with more than 50% of the vote and subsequently won the general election, defeating Democrat Gregory Stumbo. Cameron became the first African American to hold the position of Attorney General in the state’s history.
