He is best known for his role as the British punk vampire Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off, Angel. Marsters also played other characters in various anime series and video games, such as Brainiac, Captain John Hart, and Zamasu.
James studied at the Juilliard School, the American Conservatory Theatre, and the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts before beginning his performing career in theater. In 1997, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in television and movies.
