Jerome Powell leader of the Federal Reserve and the current executive officer of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System is the chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Board meetings will be presided over by the chair.
The chair is elected to a four-year term by the US President and confirmed by the US Senate and simultaneously serves as a member of the Board of Governors. Depending on a new nomination and confirmation at the conclusion of each term, the chair may serve for beyond one term. In 1984 and 1985, Powell was selected to be the International Affairs Fellow of the Council of Foreign Relations, where he conducted research and wrote on a range of international issues, including U.S.-Latin American relations and the role of the World Bank.
