Jimmy Swaggart Biography

Jimmy Swaggart is an American Pentecostal televangelist, pianist, gospel music recording artist, and Christian author. Both domestic and international viewers watch his television ministry, which debuted in 1971 under the name “Camp Meeting Hour.”
Jimmy’s parents are sharecropper William Herron’s daughter Minnie Bell Herron and the fiddler and Pentecostal preacher Willie Leon (also known as “Sun” or “Son”) Swaggart.

In 1952, Swaggart wed Frances Anderson, who was 15 years old at the time. He played music alongside his father, the pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Wisner, Louisiana, where he first met Frances Anderson. The name of their son is Donnie. Swaggart started performing Southern Gospel music at several churches while also taking on a variety of odd jobs on the side to help support his growing family.

Donnie’s son Gabriel serves as the youth pastor of Crossfire, the youth ministry of Family Worship Center. In 1986, Swaggart accused Marvin Gorman, an Assemblies of God minister, of having many relationships. Swaggart had never been exposed before. In reaction, Gorman hired his son-in-law Randy and his son-in-law Garland Bilbo to keep an eye on the Travel Inn in Metairie, New Orleans. Room 12 of the motel has a telescopic camera and a black cloth covering its glass.

The National Enquirer opted not to publish her tale due to her drug use, arrest warrants, and test results. On February 21, 1988, Jimmy Swaggart gave a live television address that became remembered as his “I have sinned” speech.

Swaggart had an ambition of starting a Bible school and indeed he made it. In the fall of 1984, Swaggart founded Swaggart Bible College (JSBC). The college once provided degrees in both education and communication. In the fall of 1987, enrollment hit a record high of 1,450 students.
Students left JSBC in 1988 as a result of the Swaggart affair and concerns with accreditation. Even though it was predicted that enrollment would decline by 72% in 1988, the Bible college was still going to move on with its plans to create a theological seminary.
