Julius Malema Biography|wiki

Julius Sello Malema is a South African politician who is a Member of Parliament. He became well-known for his vociferous backing of Jacob Zuma, who was first the leader of the ANC and subsequently South Africa’s president. Malema’s relationship with Zuma, however, became strained after Malema received disciplinary punishment from the ANC in May 2010 and called for Zuma to be ousted from power before the ANC’s 53rd National Conference. Malema was dismissed from the ANC in April 2012, some months before the convention, for defaming the organization.

Arrest|Racism

Malema was referred to be South Africa’s “next leader” by both Zuma and Cassel Mathale, the Premier of the Limpopo Province. Unfavorable portrayals see him as a “reckless populist” who may cause racial unrest and destabilize South Africa. In March 2010 for making derogatory remarks about Zuma’s rape accuser, and again in September 2011 for singing “Dubul’ ibhunu,” he was found guilty of hate speech both times (“Shoot the Boer”).

Malema was accused of fraud, money laundering, and racketeering in 2012. Due to excessive delays by the National Prosecution Authority, the case was dropped by the courts in 2015 after several delays, which raised suspicions that the accusations were politically motivated. Yet AfriForum declared in 2018 that it will bring a private case against Malema for alleged corruption.
