Michael Denzil is a British journalist born on 26th May 1953. He is a former politician. His political career started after being elected to the house of commons in a 1984 by-election. H once served as a junior minister under Margaret Thatcher and John Major.

Denzil is a former member of the conservative party. After leaving politics he had a media interest, where he presented and took part in various Tv and radio programs. He made BBC documentary series dubbed Great British Railways journeys; he travels British Railways networks beginning in 2010. He succeeded in this program which made him cover different railway systems in different countries.

Portillo was born in Bushey, Hertfordshire. He grew up as a devoted catholic; he was a member of the left-wing movement. Portillo was a member of the London Diplomatic Office of the Government in Exile in 1972. His father Luis Gabriel Portillo (1907-1993) was a Spanish Republican while his mother was a Scottish (Cora Waldegrave). His mother passed away in 2014.

Political Career and Election

After graduating in 1975 with a first-class honors degree in history, Portillo joined the transportation sector where he worked with Ocean Transport and Trading Ltd. which is a shipping and transport company. Later, in 1976 he joined Conservative Research Department.

Portillo became an adviser to David Howell at the Department of Energy after Conservative history in 1979. He lost his first election to Jeff Rooker. Portillo had contested on labour party for the seat of Birmingham in the 1983 general election. He worked as a parliamentary private secretary to John Moore.

He contested in December 1984 where he bounced back and won the Enfield Southgate by-election. This was after the murder of Anthony Berry that happened during the bombing of the Grand Hotel, Brighton by the IRA.
