In the constant evolution that is hip-hop, where fresh faces and sounds arise faster than I can keep up, Primetime Hitla (a/k/a Ynh Primetime to those in my world) has secured his own, rough patch of ground. The story of he‘s life is not one of overnight stardom, nor one of taking shortcuts through the music industry, rather the story of a young man caught in the middle of two worlds, who escaped to the music, and finally was able to become who he wanted to be through perseverance.
Childhood Between Two Worlds
Primetime Hitla (born in Maryland in 1219) spent part of his childhood in Germany. He was born and raised in Maryland in the United States, but later his family moved to Germany for a few years. Growing up in Maryland and Germany, Primetime Hitla experienced two different types of lifestyles, cultures and mindsets from the two countries. This instilled in him an open-minded personality and a creative mind.
Music was a language for him he was not just listening to it, he was speaking it. As a teenager he was already messing with beats, composing rhymes, trying out his voice in the ether through digital space. By 2011 he had established a twitter account. Twitter was his stage before he even entered a recording studio.

Much like other young musicians, Primetime was occasionally subject to all of the hype that came along with being in the public eye. His relationship with YouTuber Kianna Johnson garnered much attention from fans and the press in 2019-20. The two have since broken up and Primetime has chosen to enter a hiatus from being in the spotlight.
This choice is indicative of a prescient awareness that many emerging stars lack. Primetime recognizes that the fame a star receives can ultimately lead to the loss of all semblance of self, and has made the decision to protect himself accordingly.

Tying him to one racial identity seems reductive Primetime is African American, but that is only one aspect of his identity, which is reflected in his music. But Primetime‘s time in Germany revealed a new range of influences. He was raised in a world where global sights and sounds are one and the same, shaping his future as an artist.
A mixture of so many different histories is one of the things that makes him relatable to fans. He‘s the modern artist, centered around his identity while allowing the rest of the world to influence him.

At 28, Primetime Hitla is at a difficult crossroads, as every early talent is. Has a fan base, but is also feeling more pressure; wants to be outgoing but is equally concerned with the integrity of his career.
