Who is William Ruto?
William Ruto has served as Kenya’s vice president since 2013. Ruto established the Y92 youth front, which helped launch his political career during the administration of President Daniel arap Moi.
Following the 2007 elections, the International Criminal Court accused Ruto of crimes against humanity; however, the case was later rejected in 2016. He was found guilty of stealing a 40-hectare plot of land in Eldoret, in Rift valley, in 2013. In order to empower people, Ruto’s campaign emphasized a bottom-up economic paradigm.
According to results made public by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, William Ruto has won the contest to become Kenya’s fifth president (IEBC). Ruto has vowed to work with all leaders stating that he would want the opposition to monitor his governemnt as required by the Constitution.

Ruto narrowly defeated Raila Odinga, who managed to garner 6,942,930 votes, by receiving 7,176,141 (50.49%) of the votes (48.85 percent).
Who is Raila Odinga?
From 2008 to 2013, Raila Odinga served as Kenya’s prime minister. Former rival and departing president Uhuru Kenyatta supported Odinga.
He was once in NASA alliance back in 2017 before parting ways with the likes of Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi of ANC . Odinga, the leader of the Azimio la Umoja coalition, first gained fame as a left-leaning activist and politician in the 1980s, when Moi’s rule over Kenya was at its worst. He spent six years behind bars after one-party politics became the norm in 1982.
He unsuccessfully sought the presidency twice, losing to Arap Moi in 1997 and Mwai Kibaki, Moi’s successor, in 2007. In the violence that followed the disputed elections, more than a thousand people died.
Odinga was charged with tax evasion and bribery in 2015 while working for the cigarette sector.
